
Michael J. Murphy, Principal
Michael Murphy has over 20 years of legal and business experience, prior to joining Morrison Sund, Mr. Murphy was founding shareholder of Murphy Law and serves as general and special counsel to companies ranging from start-up/emerging companies to established businesses providing advice in the areas of corporate and business law, government contracts law, international business transactions, and commercial disputes.
Mr. Murphy also practiced for twelve years in Frankfurt, Germany as an officer and counsel with Irving Trust Company, a New York bank, and in private practice with an American law firm. Since returning to his home state of Minnesota, Mr. Murphy has built a successful practice counseling a wide variety of local and international businesses.
Mr. Murphy earned his undergraduate degrees in Finance and German from the University of Notre Dame, and his Law and MBA degrees from the University of Denver. Mr. Murphy is admitted to practice law in the States of Minnesota and Colorado, before the United States District Court for the District of Minnesota, the United States Court of Appeals for the Federal Circuit, and before the Court of Federal Claims.
Mr. Murphy is a member of the Minnesota State and Hennepin County Bar Associations. He is a longtime member and former director of the local chapter of the National Contract Management Association. He speaks at Government Contracting conferences and workshops. Mr. Murphy also speaks, reads and writes German fluently.

Commercial Litigation: Mr. Murphy is a seasoned commercial and contract litigator. Several of his government contract cases are reported, and have been discussed in industry journals. Mr. Murphy has also been lead counsel in numerous international litigation matters requiring complete command of the German language in discovery and the courtroom.
